All Your Heart
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart…In all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5,6 NKJV)
“…you will find me if you seek for me with all your heart…” (Jeremiah 29:13)
There is a wholehearted and passionate pursuit of God that we are called to, as found in words such as “all,” “all your ways” and “all of your heart.”
The rewards of this dedication are significant.
To the extent that we seek the kingdom of God, we will receive the benefits of our commitment: ten for ten, five for five, and for those who do not seek because they misjudge God, there is nothing.
If asked, most of us can quote the “greatest commandment.”
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind” (Luke 10:27)
There is that challenging word again.
All
I was thinking about this as I was praying for a precious loved one: “Father God, direct their paths…let them find you…” Even as I prayed, the word “all” mocked me. I worried that they might not have that “all” level of commitment and dedication and would, therefore, not receive the promises of those scriptures.
For a moment I despaired that my prayers were being rendered worthless. But then, almost that quickly, the whisper of the Spirit of God pierced my heart with these words:
“Diane, there is a higher law at work in your prayers. The law of love.”
The Higher Law of Love
God’s amazing grace revealed a powerful truth to me in that moment. The truth about Love.
Love is the secret and ultimate weapon of our spiritual warfare. All truth is hidden in Love. Love is the motivation and the medium of prayer.
Without love, why pray? Without prayer, what was love?
Love is the language that God speaks. It is the language that he hears and the one that he responds to.
Therefore, because God is love, I continue to pray for those whom I love. I pray with a love that:
- patiently perseveres
- does not give up
- believes and hopes all things
In this, I am pouring out the love that I am receiving from God. He perseveres with me too, and never gives up on me. He believes in me and hopes that I will walk in the fullness of his grace and power until Christ is made perfect in me. Perfect in Love!
Finally, he seals the truth of love with a promise…
Love will not fail! (1 Corinthians 13:8)
It will not fail because Love is a Person. Do not minimize love to just an emotion. Everything that love is, is tied up in who God is and what he says.
Now the word all finds its true power in love.
“All things are possible, only believe.” – Jesus, Mark 9:23
“God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly beyond all that we could ask, or even think, according to the power [of love] that works in us.” Eph.3:20
Henry Blackaby says it this way,
“God’s response to our prayers is not based upon our worthiness but upon His love and grace. Our confidence in prayer comes not from who we are, but who He is!”
When I pray I have the one thing that I need. Love. Love is powerful, so let us continue to pray and never give up.
I just love this, and it really speaks to me that all truth is hidden in love, and God’s language is love. Once we know this, we’re home! Just so appreciate these words today. And keeping you in my prayers during your transition!
We are so home – having a taste of heaven when we agree in Spirit! Even though we don’t know each other in the physical – we are united in the Love of God.
