Pursuing Peace
This morning I woke up with these words pulled up from my heart and spoken into my thoughts:
‘Seek peace, and pursue it.’
I am not aware of any circumstances or relationships in my life that warranted these words as an admonition, however…
Peace is not the absence of conflict.
Peace is the presence of God.
Jesus said this:
I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. John 14:27
The world gives us a lot to be troubled, anxious, and worried about. And, if that we not enough, I can add my own, often useless, worries to each day, even borrowing some from tomorrow or next week. Sometimes I even try to plan my internal calendar into the next year. Soon I have lost the flow of today – the peace of today – and with it, the intimate presence of God has elusively vanished into the mechanisms of the clock.
‘Seek peace, and pursue it.’
Another translation says, “Seek peace, and work to maintain it.” So, purposefully, I return my attention to the gift of this day.
This is the day that the Lord has made – a gift given – God’s intimate Spirit-in-me Presence to be savored – treasured – considered – sought.
This morning I hold out my arms and my heart. I seek this peaceful presence of God for today.
Will you? Seek peace – the presence of God?
I am making this the meditation of my week. As I do this, I will draw these words in and let them settle deeply. I will let the Spirit of God draw me into a deeper, experiential, revelation of peace.
Will you? Join me?
Yes and yes. Thanks Di.
Yes – such a great word. I’m so glad that we are on this journey of faith together. I miss you!
